INVENTORY 1912 Locomobile Model L Four Passenger Baby Tonneau

1912 Locomobile Model L Four Passenger Baby Tonneau

$160,000.00

The Locomobile Company of America was one of the greatest automobile manufacturers of their time. Located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Locomobile was known for he highest quality and engineering. Some of the wealthiest and most famous people of the early 20th century were customers of the Locomobile Company. Most importantly Locomobile won the 1908 Vanderbilt cup with their two purpose built 16.5 liter race cars making Locomobile the very first American car company to win an international competition. Following the win, Locomobile gained worldwide recognition increasing sales and popularity for the next decade. The 1909 model year was an awesome one for the company and it was the first year that they offered their 30 horsepower model L which became the first shaft driven model produced by the company. 4.5 inch x 4.5 inch bore and stroke, the T-head engine featured a cast bronze crankcase and a 4 speed transmission in the Model L and they were great. Offered in multiple body styles, but the best looking was the four passenger baby tonneau with its lightweight and low body, low steering column and beautiful long front fenders. By 1911 front doors were added and in 1912 there was the addition of Solar made Lamps. With the low round cowl and low front doors, the bodies became even better looking. 1912 would be the last year Locomobile would offer a four cylinder.

Offered here is a wonderful example of a 1912 Locomobile Model L baby tonneau that is just out of a local estate and has been completely restored, but is also a great original car that has been in the New England area for most of its existence. It is a wonderful original Model L with a beautiful original baby tonneau four passenger body. It retains all of its original Locomobile branded Solar lamps and its original serial number tag. Recently it has been treated to a cosmetic restoration with new paint and lamp restoration. The magneto was also rebuilt. It also has had a modern electric starter installed for convenience and small electric bulbs added to the lights for night time driving. It’s a beautiful original baby tonneau with a wonderful restoration and is tour ready. Please contact us today for more information.
